If anyone can track down the acousitc version they'll find it much easier to hear the strum.

In the first verse they play E5 which is Eminor but only the top 3 strings of the guitar (the ones closest to your head).

and then remove your finger from the 5th string and strum once.  This chord is E5/A

At the second verse the E5/A gets strummed more than once.

For the third line just play all strings instead of the first 3.  'I have to let you go'. That's an E minor chord.

Obviosly strumming is hard to explain in writing

It's kinda like 'feels like you made a mistake' E5 strummed D D DUD lift your finger to make E5/A and strum up once

Then in the second verse you strum the E5/a more than once 'you left a stain' E5 strummed D D DUD, lift off to make E5/A UDDU

It'll sound better if you can throw in a bit of palm muting bit it all depends on your skill level

The pre chorus is strummed more fluently

The chorus is strummed less fluently like the verses, everyone's got there own style, find yours.
